Motshidisi Mohono

About

FROM KATLEHONG TO THE WORLD

From Katlehong to the world, award-winning sports broadcaster, Motshidisi Mohono’s bloom has been nothing short of remarkable. “The rose amongst the thorns”, as she is so affectionately known in the sport industry, has cemented her mark of excellence in a sport that is historically divided across gender & racial lines, in her home of South Africa.

Following the
Supersport “Lady Rugga” presenter search in 2011, Mohono was invited to work at Supersport for their foray into digital content with the Supersport SuperFan Show ahead of the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. She became the first woman to anchor the Rugby World Cup Final 8 years later and evolved to be the lead rugby anchor in a male-dominated sport. Nevertheless, the trilingual presenter continues to be embraced by all and sundry for her prowess in leading conversations, honing composure during moments of pressure and adding some inclusive color through her presence.

Mohono has had the privilege of being the lead anchor for all major rugby tournaments for the Southern Hemisphere: The Rugby World Cup(2019), British and Irish Lions Tour (2021), Super Rugby (2018), United Rugby Championship (2021) and the Currie Cup, to name a few. In 2018, she became the first woman to ever win the coveted Journalist of the Year award at the SA Sport Awards.

As a seasoned MC and radio presenter,
Mohono’s voice makes an impact wherever she goes. She lends her voice to mentor young women who wish to be in the sports broadcasting space, by using her own story as a tale of the resilience and courage that one needs to make things happen for themselves in this world.

With that same courage, Mohono has her eyes firmly set on anchoring on a global stage ahead of the Rugby World Cup 2022 and 2023.
