Talks

My story the best of both worlds is a story of triumph over adversity. Navigating the world as a black woman with albinism, finding my voice and finding my confidence in a very cruel world towards people that are different. Realising nothing is impossible by getting behind the wheel when I was told I will never drive my whole life because I was born with Nystagmus, a visual impediment that cannot be corrected. Becoming an international award winning actor on a Netflix original film which made the top 10 movies on Netflix in 2024.

A girl from the rural streets of Qwaqwa in the Free State where no one thought I would amount to much simply because I was different. I dared to dream and made a realisation that it is our choices not our circumstances that determine our outcome. Everything I have achieved in my life and my career is testament to my belief that nothing is impossible.

I tell my story because I want people to know that if a girl from Qwaqwa who was born with a condition many believed to be a curse, who nobody wanted to get close to because they believe her condition was contagious, who had to sit at the very front of the class because she couldn’t see the board even while wearing glasses, who was bullied and ridiculed and faced so much discrimination, who was told not too dream to big because her dreams were not for people like her. Who was abused and ran away from home because she didn’t feel safe. If she can make it, so can you. You just need to believe.

My latest Keynote focuses on self empowerment and inclusion, dealing with the imposter syndrome, finding your voice and breathing barriers. Addressing patriarchy, sexism, ageism, unconscious bias and discrimination. As an inclusion activist I aspire to show my audience the world through the lens of a person who is part of a minority group with the intention of making them aware of their unconscious bias and a hope that once seen it can be corrected.

The only way to deal with these issues is to openly address them and unlearn the bad habits that we have learned and aspiring to be better. Holding a mirror and seeing your imperfections is a difficult exercise, but it’s a necessary one. The only way to have a harmonious inclusive society is when the included include the excluded.

This talk relates to women who face numerous challenges in the work place, young people who struggle to navigate being in positions of leadership, leaders who manage teams

A women on a wheelchair arrives 45 minutes late for a meeting, she had waited 40 minutes in the parking lot because someone who was in a hurry had parked in the handicap parking space, leaving her stranded with nowhere to park until the person returned to their vehicle. She opens by saying: “I’m sorry I’m late” , explains the incident and then says “we are not disabled, it is the world that disables us by not accommodating us” .

These words inspired this key note, to help people and organisations navigate working and living with people with disabilities. I have first hand experience of how challenging it can be to live in a world where people struggle to accommodate you because disability is uncomfortable. Creating this talk also helped me address my own bias and fueled my activism for inclusion.

This talk is an interactive session that helps organisations and individuals know the do’s and don’t, using the correct and acceptable terminology and accommodation required in the work place. It provides an open a relaxed environment to learn, to understand and adapt.
