Moeletsi Mbeki

About

Moeletsi Mbeki is a political analyst, author, and an entrepreneur. He is the Chairperson of The South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) based at the University of the Witwatersrand which is an independent public policy think tank advancing a well-governed, peaceful, economically sustainable, and globally engaged Africa.  Mbeki also served as council member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) based in London.  He was a rated political analyst for BOE and Nedbank

 

Moeletsi is the author of Architects of Poverty: Why African Capitalism Needs Changing. He edited Advocates for Change: How to Overcome Africa’s Challenges. Both books have been translated into Chinese. He has recently co-authored A Manifesto for Social Change: How to Save South Africa, with his niece Dr Nobantu Mbeki.

 

Mbeki’s journalistic journey commenced in London in 1979, where he contributed to esteemed publications like Africa, New African, Africa Now magazines, and the BBC Africa Service. His journalism career took root in the 1980s when he served as a Senior Journalist for the Zimbabwe Newspapers in Harare.  Recognised for his exceptional contributions, he was honored with a Nieman Fellowship by Harvard University for the academic years 1988–1989. 

 

Academically, Mbeki pursued studies in Building, Building Management, and Sociology in England, culminating in an M.A. degree in Sociology from the University of Warwick in 1982. His professional endeavors extended to the construction industry in both the United Kingdom and Tanzania during the 1970s.
